Matt Hensley...

(Kickflip Melon grab over the hip - early 90's NSA contest)

So, prolly one of the most influential skaters of the early 90's would have to be Matt Hensley.
Sure, you could argue that he was an icon as early as 1988 from his part in Shackle Me Not, but I think we can all agree that the Summer of '89 might as well be considered the 90's because of waht Matt, and his Vista, CA. friends, like Steve Ortega, were doing on their boards.
Skateboarding in the streets had changed so much from 1988-1989 in terms of tricks and progression. Street skating in the 80's had been paved & innovated for us by such visionaries as Gonz, Natas, Vallely, Julien, Danny Sargent.

When the summer of 1989 came around you could see clear change within street scene. It seemed like every dei that you saw or heard about a new trick being done. Things were speeding up fast and things you never thought possible were being done faster, both in the speed of skating and by the time you learn one you had to learn another to try and keep up.
New names were being whispered around along with their tricks they were seen doing, names like: Mike Chu, Steve Roberts, Ed Templeman, Brian Lotti, Justin Girard, Ron Chatman, Jeremy Klein, Mike Carroll, Mario Rubalcaba, Omar Hassan, Scott Bourne, Mark Heintzman, Wade Speyer, and, of course, Matt & Steve.
Soem of which became household names well into the 2000's and soem you wonder waht happened to.

Mario's band [at the time] 'Committed' has a sticker on Matt's board in the first pic.
Mark Heintzman now has a limited edition deck out on Assault Skateboards. (Assault also have a sticker on Matt's board) ...and the rest of the dewdz you prolly know, if not, Google can prolly help you out with that.

As of the end of this post I am currently listening to "Did You Wanna Die" by Youth Brigade from the album "Sound Of Fury" released in 1982.
This track can also be heard on the Powell-Peralta Bones Brigade Video Show. (1985)
