Most people often ask "when are you going to or why don't you, re-record 'Cosmology' since the technology has advanced so much?"


To me, this was produced so well with the technology at the time that it doesn't need to be redone. It's a timeless album much like Hallucinogen's "Twisted" (1995)


I wasn't that impressed with Miranda's "Rerecorded" album, though, the new versions were still good.

Today's Time Capsule: Cosmosis - Morphic Resonance...

So, I first heard this Cosmosis track in 1996 on the "Goa Spaceship 101" compilation and knew that I had just fallen in love with an artist. (in a purely audible heterosexual fan kind of way)
This was also the first Cosmosis track I had ever heard, too.

He wrote this far outside of the goa trance formula, sounded fresh at 3:00, and the sequelching acid at 3:31 made mai ears shiver that I wanted to play this track louder, but I couldn't because the car stereo was already maxed out.
16 years later I still listen to this with the saem enthusiasm.

Today's TIme Capsule: Didjits - Captain Ahab...

So, soemtime in Spring 1990 I had bought this CD by Didjits for the sole fact that it was on Touch & Go records, and immediately fell in love with it, and the band.
From the raw-powered-gear-head-adrenaline-rush of the first strum on "Killboy Powerhead" to the last distorted down-tuned, car horn like feedback of the Jimi Hendrix cover of "Foxy Lady."

Today's Time Capsule: Hellhammer - Crucifixion...

So, here's soem catchy black metal from 1983 by way of Hellhammer.
I don't listen to these as much anymore because all my metal CDs are in storage boxed away still. But, you should give their other songs on YouTube a listen if you like metal, and have never heard these guys before.

Today's Time Capsule: The Wipers: This Time...

So, here's a piece of PDX punk history, none other than mai favorite songwriter, Greg Sage.

I first saw the name of this band on the mail order card of soem band on the Enigma record label, Agent Orange, Adrenalin O.D.?

I forget... but it wasn't until I went on one of mai many trips to Reckless Records, in the waxing years of the 90s, that I saw the cassette tape for their album "The Circle," which was released in 1988, that I first heard them. I listened to that tape over and over and over. Until I eventually found their 1987 album "Follow Blind."

Then, a few years later after Kurt Cobain was murdered, MTV was playing all these interviews where he was citing influences, and he mentions Greg Sage & The Wipers, I was all like "hell yeah, no way" that's so cool.

It was then that I started looking for moar releases by this guy/band, having no luck for many years. ll the record shops had the section for them, but never any releases.

So I had to rely on mai two cassette tapes to pull me through until 2003 when I found Zeno Records.

For ten years I only had these two tapes, and most of those ten years those two tapes (or at least one) never left my car.

It was in 2003 that I had seen that Greg was releasing this 3xCD compilation of the first 3 Wipers albums w/many bonus tracks, outtakes, and mixes simply titled "Box Set."

This track is from that release.

Today's Time Capsule: Ozric Tentacles...

So, back in like 1996-'97 I found out about this band by reading interviews of mai favorite Goa Psychedelic Trance artists (Doof, Hallucinogen, etc.) and almost every time the name Ozric Tentacles came up as either an influence or music that they're into at the moment. Also, I found out that two of the members were the band Eat Static, so that made me want to search for albums by "The Ozrics" even moar.
I've heard some Eat Static tracks on various Goa/Psy compilations and even owned a copy of "Epsylon"at the time, but had no clue about their other group.
This track is one of mai faves especially the breakdown in the middle and right where it picks up again.

I had the chance to see this band back in like 2005 at The Abbey Pub in Chicago, but ended up not going because I didn't know anyone else that was going or that even wanted to go, and I didn't wanna go by myself. My loss.

As of the end of this post I am currently listening to "Rag"by Shudder To Think from the album "Ten Spot" released in 1990 on Dischord Records.
(Ten Spot came as a bonus on the CD for Funeral at the Movies)

Today's Time Capsule: Lunar Plexus - Ugglor I Mossen...

So, I used to crank the living shit out of this track back in like 1998, I forgot about it, and thinking back, I don't think I've listened to it for, at least, 9 years.

This whole compilation Izz Da Ish!!!

It's called "Tales From The Forest" and was released on Spirit Zone Records out of Germany.

Sadly, Spirit Zone shut its doors in 2005.

It's really quite sad, as they put out soem killer choons throughout the their years of business.

Today's Time Capsule, Neil Young...

So, I know soem of you reading this are fans of Neil Young, but did you know that this song if from one of the 3 albums he made in the 80's when he signed to Geffen records?
True story, he signed to Geffen, made these 3 albums and they were pissed off with this even though he fulfilled his end of the bargain and gave them 3 albums, they dropped him for "not sounding like Neil Young" and deliberately making records "unrepresentative" of his name.
Sounds like soem BS if you ask me.

He made Trans (1982) an 80's electro-induced vocoder-laden ode to Kraftwerk, Everybody's Rockin' (1983) a Rockabilly record, and one called Old Ways (1985) a Country record.

Notes From The Underground...

So, the year was 1990, the magazine was Thrasher, and the article was "Notes From The Underground" and waht great notes they were. I mean the list of bands was at such a zenith back then and tops anything that is out todei.

Today's Time Capsule, Tad...

So, I remember when I heard this for the first time, the album above of course.
Tad - "8-Way Santa" was released on Sub Pop records in 1991. I was with mai friend Sam when he bought it the dei it came out and we drove around stoked in his '79 Chevy Blazer. 

Whenever we'd drive around listening to this we'd crank the tracks "Jinx" & "Jack Pepsi" whenever they came on. I always loved the song "3-D Witch Hunt" because it was so different from the rest of the album. You would never know that it was a fatty behemoth singing with such a [pretty] voice. The whole album is great from the opening riff on "Jinx" to the last fading vibrating note on "Plague Years."
Not only did they get in trouble for the original artwork, I think they also got in trouble for using the name Pepsi in the track "Jack Pepsi" and had to change it to just jack.


I came across this album for less than $10 at a second hand store around 1994, Never played it because I have it on cassette. This is prolly the 3rd time it's been outta the package. Now they're on Discogs selling for up to $57.
Not a bad investment.

Today's Time Capsule, Suicidal Tendencies...

So, I grew up skating in the 80's (started in 1985) and I remember getting this album [Join the Army] when it came out in 1987. I would listen to it on the bus on mai walkman, staring at the cover art getting lost in its complexity, memorizing every word, riff, hook, and solo. Getting psyched to get home, grab mai board, go thrash the streets, and grind everything in sight with mai Stage V Indy 169's and Powell/Peralta Cross Bones. (mine were Blue & 95a)
Sure, I was listening to other punk & skate rock bands or albums at the time like Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Circle Jerks, Gang Green, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Exploited, and Dinosaur (jr), but none of them sang or had a song about actually skating. Nothing spoke to me like that song.
To me, this is waht skating is all about, just the vibe of the video makes me feel 13 again, skating junk and having the time of your life. Throw your friends in the mix and it's instant mayhem.

The mix of this track might be different than the "Join the Army" version, it may be the single version. I dunno, I'd have to go play the 12" to find out. I own the single on vinyl, so I haven't played it in years. It had the track "Human Guniea Pig" on it.
The sleeve says it's previously unreleased, but I think they've since released it. (obviously)
I forgot mai cammy in the city at a friends house or else I'd take a pic of the single also. Maybe when I get it back I'll do a pic update on this for y'all. Cool?

Oh Yeah, BTW I just realized that Timothy Leary plays the Dad in this video. I can find all sorts of info saying that he played the part, but no info on how it came to be.
Did he like the band? Did the band do lots of Acid? Was it his house they filmed in? Or was it the fact that he was so hip and down with underground counter culture that he could identify with the skate lifestyle, that he may have Dropped In, Turned On, and Tuned Out?

Today's Time Capsule, fIREHOSE...

So, back in 1991 as a senior in HS we would go to Chicago on the WKNDs to go skate, buy music, and see bands that we liked play live. In this case I did not do the latter.

Shucks, soemtimes we would go on a whim in the middle of the week if we had nothing better to do. Back then gas was only maybe $1.00/gal.

I think it was prolly 89¢ - 99¢

I remember going to Reckless Records on Broadway and buying music and upon leaving saw a stack of these in the front window. Now, I had all intentions of going to this show because ever since Speed Freaks came out in 1989 I had been obsessed with the fIREHOSE sound.

The way Windmilling just makes you wanna cruz around on your board having the best time of your life, how Some Things, For the Singer of REM, Anti-Misogyny Maneuver  and Riddle of the Eighties make you wanna take a ride in your car on a summer dei with all the windows down with no destination in mind, how What Gets Heard make you think of Danny Way's part, and Mike Watt's bass solo on From One Cums One is just awesome.

I hung these fliers all over mai High School and I only have this one left in mai collection. I never made it to the show, but I bet it was pretty fucking amazing.
