Steve Perdue: Rip Clip...

So, here's a "Rip Clip" from The Skateboard Mag featuring an STC boi, Steve Perdue. Steve hails from mai hometown and I've seen him grow up over the years. I remember even when he was a lil tyke he was killing it. He also rides for a local shop called Yeah! boardshop, in Bartlett, IL. which is owned by another long time skate friend, Steve Davenport.

Skater boiz...

So, I saw these dewdz chillin in front of OTC in Chicago while walking from work to the train. I gave them soem of Mai "it's not a handle" buttons a few "R U 4 SRSLY" and one "PWND," I think they were stoked.

I got a brewdog, and a slice of 'za for the ride home and they were on the saem train.

They reminded me of Mai friends and I when we would take the train in to the city to shred. One of those friends being Steve, who owns Yeah! Boardshop in Bartlett, IL.

They were okay kids from waht I could tell. There was the loud one who made noises and dumb jokes, the quiet one who just chilled to (I wanna think) Slayer in his headphones, and the moderator who wanted them to use their inside voices. I hope they keep skating, and I get to ride with them soemday. Maybe at Wilson.

Go Skateboarding Day #2...

So, at the opening todei I saw so many dudes I like skating with... mai daughter Scott Gall, Tony Labrador, Alex Vanillasaur, Perduski, PVB, Blaze, Ferro, TJ Larsden, Dav and a few others... thanks dewdz.

YEAH! Berricshop...

So, I was czeching oat the Berrics this morning, not the Beerics although those guys are pretty rad dewds down for a fun tyme, to look at the shop profile for mai old friend Steve's shop, YAY! A Shoppe for Boards and when the main Berrics page loaded it had an ad for Wellborn Clothing, owned by another friend of mine, Marfa.

Shaolin Wooden Men is also a 1976 movie starring Jackie Chan of whom which I think all of you know.

Yeah Barney...

So, mai friend Steve has a shop called Yeah! Boradshop. I recently had the privilege of going in Three (3) days before the black friday and picking me up one of these fine Jerseys, The Invisible Barney.
This shirt is so nice and comfy I might have to go back and get a few moar. The Neck doesn't stretch out, or at least hasn't yet, and doesn't choke you either. One thing I look for in a T-shirt is if the collar stays put during its lifetime, not swimming around your neck or better yet squeezing on your esophagus making your feel like you have soemthing stuck in you throat.

Also, I picked me up another pair of the Vans "Chukka Low", I don't know waht it is about this shoe that makes me come back for moar every time. It's the only shoe I've skated all year and even the last half of last year. I think it has soemthing to do with the padded insole, it's just as thick and cushiony in the heel as the ones that come in the TNT II mids. No moar bruised heels or flattened arches from jumping or running out of failed attempts at landing difficult skateboard maneuvers.
Let's see, I had the Blue & Grey, the Mustard/Custard Yellow (which I did custom art on), the Black & Grey (also with custom art and glitter glue), and now the Olive Green on Green canvas/corduroy combo. (pictured above)
The only gripe I have with this shoe is that the side stitch comes down right across the joint of mai pinky toe. Usually I just wear the shoes for a week to stretch out the material as to not produce any blisters for post skating discomfort so I end up walking around like Fred Sanford.

OMA BBQ...

So, it's that time of year again Fellows where I pack my bags and must go to Arizona for the 4th annual OMA BBQ weekend, Mesa to be exact. That's where my friends Frog & Joy live in their house with my niece and nephew Malibu & Compton. Malibu is the tall one.

Gotta stop by Yeah! boardshop to stock up on soem new ish, like a new 8.25, soem new STF's and soem new chukka lows. Still have to buy mai plane ticket, hope I can still find a cheapo price out there on a good airline, I love Southwest, but I hat the trek down to Midway on the CTA, crybaby.

I can't wait to skate you again and you and you and you. Maybe run into some of the Dry Bones Nation Arizona chapter.

Maybe I'll hit up Marfa over at Wellborn Clothing to see if I could do some product plugging while I'm out there, you know, get the brand noticed in the southwestern public eye, which might be KNDA good since it'll still be KNDA fresh in their minds after seeing their rider Shawn Turner get 6th in Chicago's King of DC contest thingy, whatevs.

All Songs were recorded in the Spring of 2006 in the sleeper cab of D.S. Yancey's old Freightliner semi, from San Diego to Denver. I met him, 2007, through a friend I used to work with Mark Scearce, who's friends were having a house party in KNDA a reunion of sorts of old friends, they all had bands and Yancey one one of the acts, all solo, he played the Tambourine with his foot. Mark recorded that night on his MD player. I'd like to hear it.

New Sticker...

So, B in the D we had made some stickers, One had Nicholas sitting on Dick Van Patten's lap with the words FUCK on top and YEAH on the bottom. We also so had series of Grateful Dead stickers commemorating the death of some old fat guy missing a finger. The one I am getting made is the one in the picture. If you would like to buy one that would be cool also.

My Demo...

So, My Demo at the Geneva park today totally PWND. I was there in support of Buster Bear. Yup, that's right Lonely Boy represented the subby's, going back to where he started, in a first edition Buster Bear T-Shirt. All did not go according as planned though.

There was some sort of contest happening hosted by Yeah! Board Shoppe also, Bad Planning on somebodies part. It was kewl, I was able to do my Demo in between the contest classes which were burgeoning, intermittent, advantaged, as well as during the results of the contest, which I contested by finishing My Demo and sipping water all the while to stay Hydrogenated.

All in all I would say it was a pretty good turnout today for My Demo considering that they said the Heat Index was 100-105 degrees today, the wind was there at least, to help deal with the heat. Yah Dig?
The one complaint I do have with today is that after they called the results of the contest I was contesting, everybody left. I need to get a better agent so I can get compensated for My Demos when this type of thing happens, It hasn't been the first time either.

Tony Hawk's Hair...

So, Yup. You guessed it. That's me in 1987. Do you like the Red sweatpants that I'm wearing? No? Yeah KNDA thought that too. I did however have a pair of these bad boys from Powell Peralta. The one good thing about those sweatpants is that in 1988, my 8th/Freshman years, I had cut the bottoms off, and my friends and I started wearing the last 8 inches of the leg as hats. Pretty stylish I know, but as teen skaters in the 80's you just didn't care about fashion, it was all about personal expression.

Take for instance this pic of my friends Justin Mueller and Steve Davenport, to the untrained eye we might have and prolly looked all the same to people outside of the know, but to each other it was almost like an almost Heathers-like envy of Amigo bracelets stolen from Pier 1, what skate company you had a Hip Pack from, how much of an ollie hole you had in your pants' cuff or how cool your grip tape art was. Although Airwalk shoes were pretty dominant in this era it was what obscure style of shoes you had that really stuck you out of the crowd with brands such as Vans, British Knights or even Ellesse, which Jesse Neuhaus used to rock or even just some Chuck Taylors with custom sharpie doodles. The old stand by was the Air Jordan, the shoe of shoes for skateboarding.

The shirt hanging on the door in the background is an old G&S shirt I had bought at a local T.J.Maxx. The one my Mommy used to take us to was by the Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, IL. This store was soooo kewl B in the D because they would carry all these skate brands like G&S, Jimmy'z and Vision Street Wear. It was like a skater's paradise to get all these west coast clothes in the midwest without paying skate shop prices, by the way, when you're 13 your Mommy loves that. I still have that G&S shirt, it's in my closet and it still fits. Don't know if that's good or bad. Is it good that I'm thin at 35 or bad because I was this size in 1987-88?

HAKAS Has Begun...

So, thanks to Chicago weather, Hakas Tour has been post-PWND for almost a month now. It seems that the next few months will be on the up side of Sunny Days rather than the up side Rainy. A full cast of Flatbellies, Barneys, Kooks, Mallgrabbers, Mongo Pushers and Data Files. So, enjoy the preview, it's not a trailer, because they were called trailers because they used to play them AFTER the movie was over, like a trailer.

As of the end of this post I am currently listening to "Gary's Breakfast" by Butterglove from the album "The John Morand Session" 1997. Butterglove is some pretty good math rock ish with Pen Rollings on guitar. Perfect for HAKAS Tour.

Vans Shoes...

So, today there is a Vans demo at Wilson Skatepark in Chicago, IL. The Vans Driving the Business Tour 2009. Yeah, I know I'm posting a blog about the Demo on the day of the Demo, but also there is a Vans Demo Saturday in Roselle, IL. at the Skatepark out there. Different set of riders from Friday to Saturday. That should be cause enough to roll out. You can get an idea of the Roselle park from all of the Dry Bones videos that are out there. The last Dry Bones Nation video I posted was mostly at Roselle. It's the park where Steve from Yay! A Place For Boards does that bluntslide on the quarter pipe in the bank & KDawgKev38 does that tailslide kickflip out. As of the time of the end of this post I am currently listening to "Helicopters are Burning" by Drain from the album "Offspeed & In There" 1996. Drain is King Coffey from the Butthole Surfers , he has been their drummer since 1983.

So, when I heard from my friend Steve that he was opening a skate shop & starting a website to promote it and the Illinois skate scene, I jumped at the opportunity to get a custom board made in the shape of Illinois, an idea that I came up with in 2006.
When my friend Danny at Factory 13 came through Chicago with some other friends, the Godoys, in their band Last of the Bad Men, I told him about my challenge. He immediately got stoked on it and said that was "a fucking great idea". If you ever make it out to Yeah! Boardshop in Bartlett, IL, as promoted on the Skate Illinois website, you will see it up on the wall. The picture posted here is of the deck I had Danny make. He sent this picture to me after production.

Yay!!! A Shoppe for Boards

So, I have a friend... His name is Steve Davenport and he is a business man. I have known Steve since 1987. The first time I ever went to skate Downtown Chicago was with Steve & Brent George, we took the train. I think it was the summer going into 8th grade. It was the best day ever, I learned frontside wall rides without a ramp-to-wall, just straight 90* wall barge. I remember I was riding a Claus Grabke "exploding clock".
Steve has been in the game just about as long as I have. He won a skateboard contest at Swedish Days in Geneva, IL. He won by doing a Ho-Ho and a Boneless 180* Hip-Hop. He's always been a killer and quick learner. He stopped skating a few times, but I could tell whenever I saw him that it was eating him up inside. (I myself had to stop skating from summer '92 to summer '93 for medical reasons, it sucked because that was a pivotal time in skating with tricks, boards, switch, etc.) I was more of the casual skater who just fucked around doing weird shit and he was the serious Barge-er (I had to put a hyphen or else you people would be all, "what's a barger?").
Did you know Steve tried going Culinary at one time? Did you know Steve went to school in Carbondale, IL for a bit? I think He stayed in the Stevenson Arms. Steve moved back to Geneva in 1995 and we would skate a lot, we both had keys to the P.I.T. in Rockford, IL. (a member only skatepark) So much fun skating with your good friend by yourselves at 1am indoor in the middle of January just learning shit. When Steve moved to DeKalb, IL to attend NIU in 1997, he lived on/off of Spiros St., I would drive out there after work, 30 minutes, and skate with him until mid-night drive back home 30 minutes, get up at 6am for work get home at 6pm and do it all over again the next day.
I love skating with him, he's such a good viber & skate-ego pumper, makes you feel good about landing the sketchiest trick just for the fact that you pulled it off. Steve did some time at Woodward, I think as a cook at first if I remember, and then as a counselor. Hey, I don't have a photo memory. Steve worked at RQ skateshop for, I think, close to 7 or 8 years. He then said "Fuck this place, I'm gunna doit my way the way I want to, it's in my blood and I know what's up". So, now He has his New Shoppe, which will be open for it's 1st year in March 2009, (YEAH! Steve).
The Shoppe is called YEAH! Boardshop located at 148 Bartlett Plaza, Bartlett, IL 60103. It's kinda convenient being right off the Metra line that goes to Elgin, IL. So you could take the train out there do some shopping and maybe make a new friend or meet an old one there and do some skating. The area has a few okay parks that are fun if you are just visiting and wanna shred. I have included some pics for your viewing pleasure, and maybe to let you know who steve is. Maybe you've seen him around over the years and never knew his name or have seen the YEAH! stickers about and said "what's a YEAH!?"
