Steve Perdue: Rip Clip...

So, here's a "Rip Clip" from The Skateboard Mag featuring an STC boi, Steve Perdue. Steve hails from mai hometown and I've seen him grow up over the years. I remember even when he was a lil tyke he was killing it. He also rides for a local shop called Yeah! boardshop, in Bartlett, IL. which is owned by another long time skate friend, Steve Davenport.
Uploaded by iSapien1956672 on Mar 3, 2011 I asked Steve to do a trick for mai cammy, this is waht he did. Fancy footwork, quick stepping. Ollie up to No Comply the rail to MTV extreme filming... Mount St. Mary's park in Saint Charles, IL. 60174 (aka STC1) Steve Perdude doing a crooked grind at STC-1 in 60174. on April 28th, 2010.

Today's Time Capsule: Nomeansno - All Lies...

So, this album by NOMEANSNO was the first CD that I ever bought. The year was 1989 (14, Freshman), and I was shopping at the local Camelot Music in the [original] St. Charles Mall in beautiful St. Charles, IL. 60174.
I remember just browsing the "alternative" section looking for soemthing cool.
(this was back before Alternative became a music genre [like indie], but rather a section of music that couldn't be quite classified. For example: You'd have Butthole Surfers next to Circle Jerks next to Fad Gadget next to Psychic TV next to Renegade Soundwave and anything else punk/post punk/experimental...)

One thing about this dei that I'll never forget was that while I was looking around, this dude/friend [Tim Gallagher] in the same class as me walked in with this kid Eric Doherty and we started chatting doing small talk.

Tim-   "What's up? You know Eric?"
Me-    "Nothing, yeah, we've met before."
Tim-   "Cool, waht'ya doing?"
Me-    "Looking for new music, thinking about getting a CD."
Tim-   "Cool, which one?"
Me-    "Dunno, I was looking at these, but don't know whether to get this album (forgot the other band) or this NOMEANSNO album."
Tim-   "Dude, get the NOMEANSNO! You heard these guys?"
Me-    "No, but I've always seen their shit in the Alternative Tentacles catalogs, but never knew waht they sounded like"
Tim-   "Yeah, dude, get this, you'll love these guys."
Me-    "Cool, thanks. See yah later."

Sadly, that's one of the last things I remember about him. His parents enrolled him into a military school later that year and he committed suicide while there.
As long as I listen to NOMEANSNO and especially whenever I listen to "Wrong" I'll always remember the short friendship, punk bond we created that one year.

Thank you, Tim for the great recommendation. I still have it, and it still has no scratches.

You Ever Do Hand Plants...?

You ever do hand plants? from Dave Ackels on Vimeo.

So, I first met dave around 1993 in beautiful St. Charles, IL 60174 at this really kewl, trendy coffeehouse, Coffeehouse Ghiberti.
Back then we just called him Ohio Dave, and he filmed my friend Sam skating all the time, even made him a short skate video with a Dinosaur jr. song.

It wasn't until recently last year, while looking at my friend Jay's FB page looking at his friends, that I saw the name Dave Ackels. Now Jay being from Ohio, I sent a message to Dave and kindly asked if he'd ever done time in STC, and did he ever go by "Ohio Dave."
The answer was yes, and he [sort of] remembered me.
Skateboarding is a small world.

Today's TIme Capsule: Straitjacket Fits - All That That Brings...

So, back in the early 90's whilst attending St. Charles High School (there was no east or north back then) in beatutiful St. Charles, IL. 60174 I used to listen to this band's cassette that featured this song. It was released on Rough Trade records. I had become addicted to the label after hearing "feedtime + suction" by the band Feedtime, and even more after going to the Rough Trade store in San Francisco back in 1991.
It was much like my addiction to Touch & Go, Sub Pop Records, and Wax Trax! Records.
To this dei I still get chills while listening to this song. I hope you enjoy it, even if only a small percentage.
